Boebert’s Vote for a Debt Ceiling Bill Reflects Her Longtime Opposition to Government ‘Benefits’
https://coloradotimesrecorder.com/2023/04/boeberts-vote-for-a-debt-ceiling-bill-reflects-her-longtime-opposition-to-government-benefits/53138/
Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert on Wednesday voted for a bill put forward by House Republicans that raises the debt ceiling, cuts spending, and repeals key elements of President Biden’s agenda. “The bill that passed the House yesterday is the Congresswoman’s position on the debt ceiling,” Boebert’s press secretary Jake Settle told the Colorado Times Recorder in an email on Thursday. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as the final version of the House bill included a number of provisions that were also featured in a House Freedom Caucus proposal unveiled last month.

Boebert lauds health center grant despite voting no on bill to fund it
https://www.chieftain.com/story/news/2023/04/27/lauren-boebert-lauds-grant-despite-voting-no-on-bill-to-fund-it/70131182007/
Rep. Lauren Boebert’s office recently issued a press release to celebrate a $5.1 million grant for Pueblo Community Health Center, but Boebert voted against the bill funding it because of what the release called “Democrat poison pills” in the legislation. Most congressional Republicans voted no on the 2023 appropriations act. The grant was secured during the appropriations process in a bill approved by Congress in December 2022. In an interview with the Chieftain, Boebert said the final bill was over a thousand pages and included “amendments that were not germane.”

“If Congress is serious about preventing school shootings, it needs to harden schools, allow teachers to take self-defense training, and modernize school firearm policies when over half of states recognize Constitutional Carry,” Boebert said. “Protecting the Second Amendment is the most effective way to prevent violence in our communities and to stop school shootings,” she continued. “Gun free zones are dangerous, since they create vulnerable targets.” Boebert added that “Republicans need to defeat the myth that gun control is the solution to school shootings, and we need to show that we are serious about protecting the Second Amendment while also protecting students from evil murderers.”

Bye George! Here are the weak GOP seats that could let Dems win the House in ’24
https://www.salon.com/2023/04/23/bye-george-here-are-the-weak-seats-that-could-let-dems-win-the-in-24/
Rep. Lauren Boebert (Colorado 3rd district) — One of the biggest surprises of 2022 was something that didn’t quite happen, as the ultra-MAGA Colorado congresswoman with a passion for firearms and a colorful past was re-elected by a whisker, eventually beating Democrat Adam Frisch by about 600 votes, the closest congressional race anywhere in the country. Frisch plans to be back for a rematch, and according to Punchbowl News, Republicans now view Boebert as their most vulnerable incumbent next year. Money won’t be her problem: Boebert brought in a formidable $764,000 in Q1 after a previous-cycle total of more than $7 million, but Frisch is also pulling in national money, garnering $500,000 within just three days of launching his 2024 bid, with donors checking in from all 50 states.

Rep. Lauren Boebert Lists What Patriots Should Be Willing To Do And… It’s Something
https://www.yahoo.com/news/rep-lauren-boebert-lists-patriots-083002902.html
Far-right Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) drew criticism for her rallying cry to so-called patriots during an event in Texas this week. Donald Trump-loving Boebert called for “boldness” from the audience as she listed what she — and they — should be prepared to do in the name of what she claimed was patriotism. “I will do what’s right. I don’t care if it costs me an election,” Boebert said. “I don’t care if the school principal gets mad at me or the county commissioners get upset at me, or if the flight attendant kicks me off the plane.”

Adam Frisch outraises Lauren Boebert ahead of potential 2024 rematch
https://coloradonewsline.com/briefs/frisch-outraises-boebert-2024-rematch/
Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert of Silt has consistently ranked as one of Colorado’s top congressional fundraisers since her election to the 3rd District seat in 2020, raking in small-dollar contributions from a national network of grassroots conservative donors. But in her bid to win a third term next year, she may have to overcome an even more prolific fundraising effort by her likely Democratic challenger. Adam Frisch, a former Aspen City Council member who lost to Boebert by just 546 votes in the 2022 election, raised more than $1.7 million in the first quarter of 2023 — more than double the $763,000 raised by Boebert in the same period, according to Federal Election Commission disclosures.

A Super PAC Targets Greene, Gaetz, Boebert and Others on the Far Right
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/20/us/politics/marjorie-taylor-greene-boebert-gaetz.html
A bipartisan group of political operatives — spanning the ideological spectrum from former members of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus to a Democrat who challenged Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia — has started a political action committee aimed at “stopping MAGA” and eradicating what the operatives call an authoritarian streak among some Republican lawmakers.

Gaetz, Boebert and Biggs raised big bucks off their opposition to McCarthy
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/04/18/the-mccarthy-speaker-fight-gop-fundraisers-00092577
The House Republicans who were the most vocal in opposing Kevin McCarthy’s bid for Speaker reaped substantial financial rewards for it, new campaign finance filings show. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who referred to McCarthy as the “biggest alligator” in a swamp-themed fundraising email in early January, reported his top fundraising days among itemized donors on Jan. 6 and Jan. 7. Such strong fundraising days early in the quarter are unusual and suggest the Speaker fight was a significant driver of donations. The Florida congressman brought in a total of roughly $675,000 during the first quarter, including more than $480,000 from donors giving less than $200 — a sign of enthusiasm from the party’s small-dollar base.

GOP lawmakers urge Biden to stop sending ‘unrestrained’ aid, weapons to Ukraine

“Our national and economic security demand an alternative. Unrestrained U.S. aid for Ukraine must come to an end, and we will adamantly oppose all future aid packages unless they are linked to a clear diplomatic strategy designed to bring this war to a rapid conclusion.” The lawmakers also said that Biden should prioritize more diplomatic efforts to advocate for a peace agreement between the two countries. The letter was signed by 19 Republican lawmakers, including Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah.), Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH.), Sen. Rand Paul (R-K.Y.), and Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.).

Birth Control Is Next
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/04/birth-control-is-next-republicans-abortion.html
Two years ago, in Missouri, Republicans tried to ban public funding for IUDs and emergency contraception in a bill that would have made those forms of birth control ineligible for Medicaid coverage. (“Anything that destroys that life is abortion, it’s not birth control,” said the state senator who spearheaded the legislation.) During the 2022 appropriations process in Congress, Rep. Lauren Boebert attempted to bar federal funds from being used on “abortifacient contraceptive drugs,” and Republican Rep. Matt Rosendale proposed adding emergency contraception to a provision prohibiting the federal funding of abortion.

U.S. House approves bill banning transgender student athletes in girls sports
https://coloradonewsline.com/2023/04/20/u-s-house-approves-bill-banning-transgender-student-athletes-in-girls-sports/
U.S. House Republicans voted Thursday to prohibit transgender student athletes from competing on girls sports teams consistent with their gender identity, at the same time multiple GOP-dominated states are making similar moves. The bill, H.R. 734, which would apply to K-12 schools as well as colleges that receive federal funding, passed on a party-line vote of 219-203. Of the three Republican members of the Colorado congressional delegation, Doug Lamborn voted in favor of the measure, but Lauren Boebert and Ken Buck were recorded as not voting. The bill has no chance of success in the U.S. Senate, which is narrowly controlled by Democrats.

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, the Silt Republican whose congressional district contains the Colorado River from just downstream from its headwaters to the Utah border, told Colorado Politics in an email that she will continue fighting for Coloradans. “The Colorado River is called the Colorado River for a reason,” Boebert said. “I will keep working to put the people of Colorado and our interests first as we work to find solutions to western drought. Six states representing millions of people came together to produce a solution, but California failed to show up to the table and negotiate in good faith. Now, millions of people are being held hostage by California’s willful incompetence.”

How Lauren Boebert’s visit to a rural Colorado school started a small revolt against the district
https://www.denverpost.com/2023/04/21/lauren-boebert-dolores-school-visit/
Disagreement seemed inevitable, as U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert is a polarizing figure. But Dolores School District Superintendent Reece Blincoe didn’t think the issue would linger for as long as it has or turn quite as sour for his small community in rural, southwest Colorado. Blincoe, a principal and other officials have been under fire for weeks from a group of parents angry and concerned that the district invited Boebert to speak to several hundred students at Dolores Middle & High School last month for a civics discussion that turned somewhat political. Parents within the district say they were blocked from attending or watching the congresswoman’s address to the students when they voiced concern ahead of time. And they’re worried about the message that hosting Boebert sends to the students.

Lauren Boebert and Adam Frisch tied among likely 2024 voters, new poll says
https://coloradonewsline.com/briefs/boebert-frisch-tied-like-poll
The poll, conducted by progressive organizations ProgressNow Colorado and Global Strategy Group, surveyed 500 likely voters and 100 unaffiliated likely voters in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District between March 29 and April 2. It has a 4.4% margin of error. “Lauren Boebert, in a Republican-leaning district, is tied going into the 2024 presidential election cycle,” ProgressNow Colorado executive direct Sara Loflin said of the results. The race was unexpectedly close in the 2022 midterms. Boebert, the highly controversial conservative lawmaker, beat Frisch by just 546 votes in the right-leaning district. It was redrawn in the recent redistricting process and favors a Republican candidate by 9 percentage points.

Texas judge’s abortion pill ruling supported by 69 Republicans in Congress
https://coloradonewsline.com/2023/04/12/texas-judges-abortion-pill-ruling-supported-by-69-republicans-in-congress/
A group of 69 congressional Republicans is backing a federal judge’s ruling that would overturn the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s two-decade-old approval of the abortion pill mifepristone. The 11 GOP senators and 58 House lawmakers, including Lauren Boebert and Doug Lamborn of Colorado, who filed a brief in the appeals case, broke the relative silence from Republicans in Congress on the Friday ruling, though no members of leadership signed onto the brief. “By approving and deregulating chemical abortion drugs, the FDA has not followed Congress’ statutorily prescribed drug approval process and has subverted Congress’ critical public policy interests in upholding patient welfare,” the GOP lawmakers wrote.

Republicans Dust Off Anti-D.C. Playbook to Sound Tough on Crime
https://news.bloomberglaw.com/white-collar-and-criminal-law/republicans-dust-off-anti-d-c-playbook-to-sound-tough-on-crime
“It’s their capital,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said of his constituents. “Their capital is getting overrun by crime, they want to be able to come here and try to live safely.” But some Republicans came under fire for the tone of their remarks. Rep. Gary Palmer (Ala.), a member of GOP leadership, faced blowback for calling D.C. schools “inmate factories.” Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) inaccurately said the criminal code Congress overthrew was still law, and she pressed a witness about his nonexistent support for decriminalization of public urination. “People who watched it might have become more sympathetic to the District,” Mendelson said of Boebert’s line of questioning.

Lauren Boebert Boasts of Record Hearings Despite ‘Very Little to Show’
https://www.newsweek.com/lauren-boebert-wasting-taxpayer-money-self-owns-1793988
Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert is boasting about the number of committee hearings House Republicans are holding because “they have almost nothing else to brag about,” according to a prominent academic. Republicans have launched several investigations targeting the Biden administration in recent months, with Lauren Boebert saying the House GOP had “set a new record for the amount of hearings in a single day,” with no group ever having “worked harder to get this country back on track.” The GOP took control of the House of Representatives in January, following the November midterm elections, though crucially they are still a minority in the Senate. After taking over, House Republicans launched a number of investigations including into the 2021 fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban, the Biden family’s “domestic and international business dealings” and what they called the “weaponization” of the federal government against conservatives.

Like mother, like son. On September 17, 2022, Representative Lauren Boebert’s eldest son, Tyler, was issued a “careless driving causing bodily injury” ticket in connection with a late-night car crash in which he flipped his father’s SUV into a Garfield County creek bed. Noble D’Amato, a nineteen-year-old friend of Tyler’s who was riding shotgun, wound up hospitalized with multiple concussions and a severely lacerated hand. “I still have problems with my hand,” D’Amato says. “My thumb almost got cut off. It prevented me from getting a welding job, because I can’t hold a TIG torch anymore. I’m a personal-care provider now.”

Money pours into early days of Adam Frisch’s second campaign to unseat Rep. Lauren Boebert
https://www.denverpost.com/2023/04/06/adam-frisch-lauren-boebert-2024-money/
In just over seven weeks since Adam Frisch announced his second campaign to unseat far-right incumbent U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, he’s boosted his war chest by well over seven figures, his campaign announced Thursday. To date, the former Aspen City councilman has raised $1.7 million, “shattering expectations,” Frisch said in a statement. That much money shows a clear break from the slow start his 2022 campaign had, largely due to the national attention he earned by almost unseating Boebert. During the first quarter of that campaign, Frisch had raised $232,575, federal data shows.

House Democrats include Lauren Boebert on initial list of targeted GOP-held seats

National Democrats will work to unseat U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert in next year’s election, the House Democratic campaign arm said Monday in an announcement unveiling an initial list of targeted GOP-held seats. The Colorado Republican from Silt, who narrowly won reelection to a second term last year, is among the Republican incumbents representing districts the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee considers vulnerable in the 2024 cycle, the committee said. A DCCC spokesman suggested that Boebert’s national profile and prominent alignment with former President Donald Trump could work against her.

A well-funded, dark-money political group that opposed Cory Gardner reemerges to take on Lauren Boebert in 2024
https://coloradosun.com/2023/04/05/lauren-boebert-rocky-mountain-values/
A dark-money political group aligned with Democrats that worked to block Republican U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner’s reelection two years ago has been revived to target GOP U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert’s as she vies for a third term representing Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District. Rocky Mountain Values, a nonprofit that doesn’t have to disclose its donors, is among the first major political groups to target Boebert’s 2024 reelection effort, though it likely won’t be the last after the congresswoman narrowly won a second term in November. The organization kicked off its latest campaign Monday in Durango, the same day the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced it will target Boebert next year.

Boebert Touts Record As Champion of Water Conservation, Cites Bill She Voted Against
https://coloradotimesrecorder.com/2023/03/boebert-touts-record-as-champion-of-water-conservation-cites-bill-she-voted-against/52616/
On Tuesday afternoon, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO)’s office sent out a press release that contained the following sentence: “Congresswoman Boebert is a strong advocate for rural water storage projects, and in the House FY 2023 appropriations package, she secured $229.26 million for water conservation and delivery projects and an additional $50 million for rural water projects that will help combat western drought.” However, according to records from the House of Representatives, H. R. 2617 – an appropriations bill which allocated spending for the 2023 fiscal year – passed a vote mostly along party lines in December. Lauren Boebert was one of 200 house Republicans who voted not to pass the bill. This is becoming something of a yearly pattern: last year, the Durango Herald reported that Boebert took credit for nine funding wins, coming from an appropriations bill that she also voted against.

“Sheriffs across the state refuse to enforce our gun safety laws. We have Republican county commissioners who won’t build affordable housing. They won’t enforce the oil and gas laws meant to keep our neighborhoods and schools safe. And Republican county clerks are straight up inviting corruption into their election offices,” Murib told the roughly 500 Democrats gathered at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel for the party’s biennial reorganization meeting. “Republicans have majorities in these seats across the state, and I believe the next frontier of Democratic politics must be local.” In addition to a focus on legislative and county offices, Murib said a goal of the party in 2024 will be to defend Democratic Rep. Yadira Caraveo in the battleground 8th Congressional District and work to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, who won reelection last year in the 3rd Congressional District by the closest margin in the country in a congressional race.

Republican leaders and Trump loyalists on Capitol Hill rally behind the former president after indictment
https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/30/politics/republican-reaction-trump-indictment-congress/index.html
The news of the indictment broke just hours after lawmakers on Capitol Hill departed for a two-week Easter recess. The halls of the Capitol were quiet. On social media, Republicans were much louder. It was only a matter of minutes after news of the indictment broke before some of his fiercest defenders on Capitol Hill rushed to his defense. “Outrageous,” House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan tweeted. “BREAKING: Trump has been indicted! This is another political witch hunt targeting the people’s President,” Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert tweeted.

How would Mesa County Valley School District 51 be impacted if it lost access to U.S. Department of Education funding? The county’s U.S. House representative, Lauren Boebert (R-Silt), last Friday made the argument that the Department of Education should be abolished during a debate about H.R. 5 (118), the Parents Bill of Rights that would codify federal education law to give parents access to school curricula, library books and other teaching materials. That bill passed the House 213-208 but is expected have a difficult time passing the Democratic-majority Senate. However, Boebert passionately supported an amendment proposed by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) that would eliminate the department entirely.

The House of Representatives adopted two amendments on voice votes Thursday that would require schools to notify parents if biological male students who identify as women are permitted to use bathroom facilities or participate in athletics based on their gender identity. The two amendments to HR 5, the Parents Bill of Rights, were sponsored by conservative firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and were adopted by a voice vote during the floor debate on the legislation. The Parents Bill of Rights, which was sponsored by Rep. Julia Letlow (R-LA), would require all public school districts to disclose their curriculum materials to parents, mandate parental consent for participation in student surveys, and prohibit schools from selling student information “for commercial or financial gain.”

So quit with that!” She was referring to a clip where Weingarten said: “How many lives will be shattered before we have the courage to do what Scotland did, what Australia did, what New Zealand did, what other great democracies do? Wee the people: Republican Boebert presses DC witness on public urination
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/mar/30/republican-lauren-boebert-house-hearing
In bizarre scenes in a US House hearing, the far-right Republican Lauren Boebert asked if a revised Washington DC criminal code was now law – only to be reminded that Congress overturned it earlier this month – then fixated on whether that code would have decriminalised public urination. The revision was meant to give the District of Columbia a first code update in 120 years, but it became subject to fierce debate over crime as a political issue. Republicans said the code was soft on violent offenses. Angering progressives, Joe Biden said he would not veto a Republican measure to overturn the code.

The move is not surprising. Williams talked about closing the GOP primary as he campaigned for the state party chair job. “We must work to close the primaries so that only Republicans choose our Republican nominees,” he said. “We cannot afford to let Democrats become unaffiliated so that they then can meddle in our primaries, like they did with (Rep.) Lauren Boebert Floats Adding Human Babies to Endangered Species List
https://www.newsweek.com/lauren-boebert-floats-adding-human-babies-endangered-species-list-1789992
Republican Representative Lauren Boebert flashed photos of baby fetuses during a House hearing Thursday on endangered species. The Colorado congresswoman showed the images as the Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife and Fisheries discussed potential improvements to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in relation to its 50th anniversary. The hearing focused on de-listing the grey wolf and the grizzly bear. Boebert, a staunch foe of abortion, was selected to serve on the subcommittee as part of the current Congress. She has either sponsored or co-sponsored multiple abortion-related bills since December.

Freedom Caucus seizes center stage
https://www.axios.com/2023/03/22/freedom-caucus-budget-debt-ceiling
Flanked by half a dozen right-wing Republicans, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) extended an invitation to President Biden: Attend Wednesday night’s meeting of the House Freedom Caucus to begin budget talks with Capitol Hill’s true power brokers. Why it matters: The absence of negotiations between Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) — not to mention wall-to-wall media coverage of the potential Trump indictment — has obscured the dangerous trajectory of the ongoing debt-ceiling crisis. The Freedom Caucus, which Boebert dubbed “the only caucus who has released a plan to address this situation,” is stepping into the vacuum — flexing the same muscle it used to extract concessions from McCarthy during the speaker’s election.

Despite long being vehemently opposed to congressional earmarks, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert is accepting requests for them. Over the past two years, Boebert has called such earmarks “corrupt” and “a waste of taxpayer money,” and something only “swamp creature” career politicians would request. Regardless, staffers for the Silt Republican have sent emails to local officials saying the congresswoman would accept their requests if they made them by today, but isn’t promising if she will submit anything specifically.

Lauren Boebert Says Donald Trump Arrest Democrat’s ‘Only Hope’ of Winning

Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has hit out at Democrats and said the party’s “only hope” of winning in 2024 is if former president Donald Trump is arrested. The Republican firebrand hit out at Democrats amid Trump’s claim that he will be arrested on Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged hush payment he made. Trump is being investigated by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg over an alleged payment he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Adam Frisch nearly unseated Lauren Boebert last year. In one big way, 2024 could be harder.
https://coloradosun.com/2023/03/20/adam-frisch-lauren-boebert-2024-challenge/
Adam Frisch defied political consensus when he nearly unseated Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert last year in her GOP-stronghold district. In some ways, however, the Democrat’s 2024 rematch with the controversial Western Slope congresswoman may be tougher. That’s because Frisch’s near-win highlighted Boebert’s vulnerabilities, both to the congresswoman and to national Republicans, who are desperate to hold onto their majority in the U.S. House. More attention on the race is a double-edged sword for Frisch: It means more money and focus from Democratic and Republican groups alike that mostly ignored the 2022 race in the 3rd Congressional District because they assumed Boebert would cruise to victory.

Colorado newspaper The Durango Herald has called out far-right Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-Colo.) controversial visit to a local high school this week. Boebert’s speech and Q&A session with students at Dolores High School in Dolores on Wednesday made the news outlet “uncomfortable” because “her talk ventured beyond governance into political territory,” its editorial board wrote Friday.

The Silicon Valley Bank meltdown is hitting some Colorado startups
https://www.cpr.org/2023/03/13/silicon-valley-bank-colorado-startups/
GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert took to Twitter to accuse regulators of giving the banks a “bailout” that she said is “about protecting the donor base of the Democrats and ensuring if you invest in DEI and ESG you’ll be just fine!” Boebert offered no proof to support those claims. SVB had a high concentration of tech and venture capital clients, while Signature had many cryptocurrency clients. The Western Slope legislator also referenced the Sunday night briefing call, highlighting that a fellow member asked what steps the administration was taking to stop misinformation about the banks on social media. Boebert tweeted “this administration AGAIN just committed the federal government to interfere with free speech. Unacceptable!”

School officials and Boebert’s office billed the session in the Dolores Schools gymnasium as a kind of civics discussion, but the congresswoman also spoke of her efforts with the Freedom Caucus – a conservative bloc of Republican representatives – the U.S. response to COVID-19, and in response to students’ questions, about her personal and political development. Boebert, a second-term Republican, represents Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes 27 counties comprising about 50,000 square miles. The congresswoman spoke to students about her role as a representative and emphasized that she relies on the Constitution and the Founding Fathers’ Federalist Papers as a guide in her work.

A North Carolina political activist is preparing to file a lawsuit against U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert of Silt in federal court in Colorado, the activist told Newsline. David Wheeler, president of the American Muckrakers PAC, sued Boebert in a North Carolina state court last year for defamation and malicious prosecution. In January, the judge dismissed the case, saying that the proper venue for it was in Colorado. Wheeler said he’s heeding the judge’s advice and is poised to bring a similar lawsuit against Boebert in Colorado, though now he plans to file in federal court.

Sarah Parker, a co-founder of Women’s Voice of Southwest Florida, told the panel the discussion over the bill gave her “Lauren Boebert vibes,” referring to the 36-year-old Colorado Congresswoman who last week announced she will soon be a grandmother. “I’m trying to figure out when we’re going to start celebrating teen pregnancy,” she said. “You know this bill is wildly unpopular. I never thought I would be on the side of Sen. Rick Scott, but here I am. Thank you, again, for imploding yourselves.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert opens the door to earmarks after calling them ‘wasteful’ in previous years
https://www.cpr.org/2023/03/06/lauren-boebert-earmarks-federal-budget/
At least one Colorado Republican is changing her tune when it comes to seeking community project funding, otherwise known as earmarks, as the budget process begins in Washington, D.C. GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert shunned the process in the previous two budget cycles, but said this time around, she will collect submissions for earmark requests. Republican Rep. Ken Buck remains opposed to the use of earmarks, according to his office. GOP Rep. Doug Lamborn’s office did not reply to questions about his stance on seeking federal dollars for community projects.

Kevin McCarthy intends to restore order to GOP House following 2022 Midterm elections
https://www.foxbangor.com/news/national/kevin-mccarthy-intends-to-restore-order-to-gop-house-following-2022-midterm-elections/article_b4c614cd-a36e-5ab1-84e3-25e6ddfae306.html
McCarthy could try to set a tone for governing. Especially ahead of a few topsy-turvy months concerning the debt ceiling. No one’s rattled yet. All it could take is a market shock to spark panic. The Treasury Department says the U.S. will hit the debt ceiling in early June. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) predicts the date falls later in the summer. No one truly knows. But that’s why some wonder about courting calm. “I would feel better if I (were) the markets based on the meeting I had today (with the President),” said McCarthy after the White House session. Not all House Republicans crave political tranquility. The GOP base — and certainly those aligned with former President Trump — regularly sow chaos. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., recently tangled with Rep. Jared Huffman, D-Calif., at the first meeting of the House Natural Resources Committee over a proposal to bar lawmakers from bringing firearms into the panel’s hearing room.Boebert then charged that Huffman was “wasting time on political stunts.”

Big tech was a major target at CPAC, but conservatives building alternatives are facing challenges

Big tech was in the crosshairs once again at one of the biggest annual gatherings of conservative politicians and personalities. In speeches at the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, elected officials, including Republican Sens. Eric Schmitt of Missouri and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, targeted big tech and the legal immunity companies enjoy under Section 230, which is being considered by the Supreme Court. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., said in her speech Saturday: “I have called for 230 protections to be removed from these big tech companies who are hiding behind Section 230, and they are acting like editors rather than publishers.”

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-backs-far-right-campaign-abolish-dept-education-rcna73733
More than a decade later, the idea is apparently popular again in far-right circles: A few weeks ago, Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky introduced legislation to abolish the U.S. Department of Education altogether. Though the bill has no realistic chance of success, it’s picked up 17 Republican co-sponsors — and counting — and the list includes some familiar far-right figures, including Arizona’s Andy Biggs, Colorado’s Lauren Boebert, Georgia’s Marjorie Taylor Greene, Arizona’s Paul Gosar, and Florida’s Matt Gaetz.

Boebert made the point that there were “unhinged” people out there, and that there were plenty of examples of political violence to point to as cautionary tales: the time a deranged gunman shot up a baseball practice attended by congressional Republicans; the 1954 attack on the Capitol by Puerto Rican nationalists. As Boebert spoke, Gallego, rested his hand on his chin and raised his eyebrows. “The member from Colorado forgot to mention January 6th, which was also an assault on representatives,” Gallego said. “Yes, it was awful when Ashli Babbitt was murdered,” Boebert interrupted, referring to the woman who was shot and killed by Capitol Police while attempting to climb through a shattered window into the Speaker’s Lobby.

Boebert Co-Sponsors Resolution to End U.S. Military Aid to Ukraine
https://coloradotimesrecorder.com/2023/02/boebert-co-sponsors-resolution-to-end-u-s-military-aid-to-ukraine/52092/
Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is among a group of nearly a dozen far-right Republicans who have co-sponsored a House resolution that calls for an end of all U.S. military and financial aid to Ukraine. The resolution, which was introduced by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) earlier this month, claims that by providing aid to Ukraine, the U.S. is “inadvertently contributing to civilian casualties.” Tens of thousands of civilians have died and millions more have fled Ukraine since Russia started its full-scale invasion of the country on Feb. 24, 2022.

Boebert focuses unfortunate attention on Trump’s Covid record
https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/boebert-focuses-unfortunate-attention-trumps-covid-record-rcna72901
In August 2020, William Saletan put together a timeline of events for Slate, and in hindsight, it’s tough to read the piece without cringing. On Jan. 10, for example, after Trump received a briefing on developments in Wuhan, he told Fox News: “We have a great relationship with China right now, so I don’t want to speak badly of anyone.” Nearly two weeks later, Trump assured the public that China “is in very good shape” and he was “not at all” concerned about a possible pandemic. When CNBC asked the Republican on Jan. 22, “Do you trust that we’re going to know everything we need to know from China?” Trump responded, “I do. I have a great relationship with President Xi.”

The 2024 elections may feel far off, but in Colorado’s most contested House districts, they’re already looming
https://www.cpr.org/2023/02/25/colorado-2024-election-lauren-boebert-yadira-caraveo/
The next federal election is more than 20 months away, but behind the scenes, political forces are already gearing up for Colorado to be back in the national spotlight. The state’s two marquee races in 2024 will be Republican Lauren Boebert in congressional district 3 and Democrat Yadira Caraveo in congressional district 8, both of whom won by extremely slender margins. Last year, Caraveo beat Republican Barbara Kirkmeyer by 0.7 percent of the vote in the toss-up seat. Boebert won against her Democratic rival, Adam Frish, by 0.2 percent of the vote in a race that on paper favored Republicans by +9, according to the state’s independent redistricting commission.

Members of Congress won’t be hard to find at this year’s Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC), which started yesterday just outside Washington, D.C.: 28 are scheduled to speak, either solo or as a part of a panel discussion. Yet, according to the current agenda, of those nine senators and 19 representatives, only Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has two solo speaking appearances. Both of Boebert’s speeches are scheduled for this Saturday, the final day of the conference and the one that typically features the most prominent speakers. Boebert kicks off CPAC’s last day bright and early with the Women’s Breakfast, hosted by Moms for America (MFA), a conservative Christian mothers advocacy group.

Boebert challenger Adam Frisch hauls in more than $500K within days of launching 2024 bid

Adam Frisch, the Democrat vying for a 2024 rematch against U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, raised more than $500,000 within three days of announcing his candidacy last week in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, his campaign said. The former Aspen City Council member has received more than 15,000 individual donations since making his campaign official on Feb. 14, his campaign told Colorado Politics on Tuesday. That total includes donors from all 50 states and all 27 counties in the sprawling district, which covers most of the Western Slope, Pueblo County and Southern Colorado, a campaign spokeswoman said. The Silt Republican defeated Frisch for a second term in the closest congressional race in the county last year, prevailing by 546 votes out of more than 325,000 ballots cast, for a margin of just over 1/10th of a percentage point.

Initial House Ratings: Battle for Majority Starts as a Toss-up
https://centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/initial-house-ratings-battle-for-majority-starts-as-a-toss-up/
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R, CO-3), an in-your-face conservative who only barely won in a clearly GOP-leaning district in western Colorado, has not moderated her behavior at all in the aftermath of her near-loss. But observers on both sides of the aisle think she should be favored anyway because a more engaged and larger 2024 presidential electorate could help her stabilize her vote. This is something we sometimes hear from operatives: Near-miss upsets can occur precisely because a race isn’t heavily engaged with national money, perhaps lulling an incumbent (and maybe even voters themselves) into a false sense of security.

Boebert claimed that Buttigieg’s admission that he should have spoken out sooner about the train derailment in Ohio “fell flat” and that the former mayor-turned-Cabinet secretary has been absent on his job. “This excuse falls completely flat. Pete is absent on the job and has been from day one,” Boebert tweeted in response to a Breitbart article.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla, a leader of a small but vocal wing of isolationist Republicans in the House, has introduced a “Ukraine Fatigue” resolution seeking to end “military and financial aid” to Ukraine. “We must suspend all foreign aid for the War in Ukraine and demand that all combatants in this conflict reach a peace agreement immediately,” Gaetz said in a statement. The measure is co-sponsored by 10 other House Republicans, including fellow Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, and conservative Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., and Thomas Massie, R-Ky.

House Republicans introduced legislation Wednesday that they said would remove barriers slowing down oil and gas permitting on federal lands and, as a result, lead to lower gasoline prices for Americans. The American Energy Act — which was introduced by Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., and cosponsored by 12 fellow Republicans — is designed to give energy companies increased certainty in the federal permitting process for oil and gas drilling in an effort to boost production and lower energy prices. Boebert said her bill would counter efforts from the Biden administration to introduce red tape and stifle production.
